When you drop a video onto it, it will analyse it and try to find meta data including a cover image and then convert it into a playable format - if necessary - before sending it your iOS device. Videos are placed into the correct folder so they appear in the native Videos app: all without iTunes.

Third-party software

There's also the option to use Wi-Fi to transfer files, but the fastest way is to use a Lightning cable. Unfortunately, many such apps have had to remove codecs following legal requests and no longer support surround-sound audio AC-3 and others.

This means that a video file with this audio format will play silently: you would have to convert your video in a suitable application to down-mix the surround sound to a stereo soundtrack first. This lets you transfer videos by Wi-Fi, but for speed and reliability we'll be using a USB cable for this guide.

Obviously, install whichever app you're going to use before following the guide below. First, connect your iPad to a computer with a recent version of iTunes try to use the latest version if possible. In the File Sharing section, click on the appropriate video app, in this case PlayerXtreme. Click the Home Videos tab.

It's a couple of tabs down from the Recently Added tab in the top-left side of iTunes. You should see the movie you just added here. Right-click or Alt -click your movie. Doing so invokes a drop-down menu.

You can also use two fingers to click the movie. Select Add to Device. This option is near the middle of the drop-down menu. Click your iPad's name. It should say something like "[Your Name]'s iPad".

Wait for iTunes to finish syncing your movie. You can watch the sync progress by viewing the blue bar at the top of the iTunes window. It resembles a blue-screened TV on a black background. Tap Library. It's in the bottom-left corner of the screen. You should see your newly added movie here. Method 3. Go to iCloud's site. Enter your Apple ID email address and password. These should be the credentials you use to sign into your iPad's iCloud. Once you've entered your information, your iCloud page will open.

You should see the phrase "Uploading Once the progress bar disappears, the file is in iCloud Drive.

Open iCloud Drive on your iPad. It's a white app with a blue cloud icon. If you don't have iCloud Drive enabled on your iPad, first do the following. Open Settings. Tap your name at the top of the page. Tap iCloud. Slide iCloud Drive right to "On". Look for iCloud Drive on the Home Screen. Tap Download to View. Tap the "Share" icon. It's the arrow that's in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Tap Save Video. This option is near the bottom of the screen. You should see the movie you just added here.

Right-click or Alt -click your movie.
